9/11 Remembrance
Twenty-five years ago, our nation experienced unimaginable evil and extraordinary acts of courage, sacrifice, and love. As Catholics, we remember September 11 as both Americans and disciples of Jesus Christ, praying for those who died, those who still carry its wounds, and for peace. This reflection, written in the aftermath of September 11, recalls the remarkable unity that emerged from that terrible day.
A Prayer of Remembrance: From Saint Mary Fort Walton Beach
God of mercy and peace, we remember before you all who died on September 11, 2001, and entrust them to your loving care. Comfort those who still carry the wounds of that day. We give you thanks for those who showed extraordinary courage and sacrificial love, reminding us of the words of Jesus: “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13). Teach us to be instruments of your peace and to recognize one another as brothers and sisters. May we never forget that evil does not have the final word. Our hope is in Jesus Christ, who conquered sin and death and calls us to love as he has loved us, forever and ever. Amen.
