Deacon Doug Martin Tells His Story
In the Gospel reading this Sunday Jesus is at a Sabbath dinner at the home of a leading Pharisee. Jesus tells a parable. He tells a story about a wedding feast. He uses this parable to remind us to invite all people to the “feast”, not just important people or people that we may like. Also, not to take the best seats for ourselves. We are to call all people to come and eat at the Lord’s Table, and to become disciples of Jesus We are so blessed here at Saint Mary to have welcomed Deacon Doug Martin and his family to our parish. Deacon Doug has a beautiful life story that he will share with us about how the Lord called him to the table. And, how very soon, he will be ordained into the priesthood of Christ. Hallelujah!
What do we want people to know:
The Church is a place where we are called to invite and to make disciples. Jesus doesn’t call only the rich or influential people to His mission. Jesus calls those who are in the Church to go out and invite all into a relationship with Him as His disciple. He asks us to be disciples who make disciples.
What do we want people to do: Ask for conversion each day to become a more committed disciple of Jesus. Pray for our church as we strive to be a place where people fall in love with God and can’t help but share that love with everyone. No matter who it is, we want everybody to become disciples of Jesus.
What's Happening at Saint Mary?
- Saint Mary Outreach: will not meet this Tuesday, September 3
- Saint Mary School: is in need of a volunteer middle school boys soccer coach, please call 850-243-8913
- Altar Servers: there will be an Altar Server training session Saturday, September 14th, from 2-4pm in the chapel. Children should be sufficiently mature (3rd/4th grade or older), attentive at Mass, and have received their First Holy Communion. - Altar Server appreciation party: with pizza, ice cream sundaes, a short refresher training session, and some fun, Saturday, September 21st from 6:30pm to around 9:30pm in the PLC Cafe
- New Parish Office hours: beginning Friday, October 4 the parish office will be closed on Fridays. Office hours will be Monday -Thursday 8:30am to 3pm.
- Beginning Sunday, October 6, parish staff will be available on Sundays to assist and serve parishioners.

Saint Mary Catholic Church will be sponsoring a Christian Concert featuring David Haas and Lori True. The concert will be held at Saint Mary Catholic Church (110 St. Mary Ave., Fort Walton Beach, FL) on Friday, September 20, 2019 @ 7 p.m.. Concert tickets are $10 each, children 14 and under will be admitted for free.
David and Lori will also be leading a retreat for all music ministers and those who serve in liturgical ministries. The retreat is $10/person and will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2019 from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m..
David Haas and Lori True both come from the twin cities of St. Paul-Minneapolis in Minnesota. David is the Director of the Emmaus Center for Music, Prayer and Ministry and been active as a liturgical composer, workshop and concert presenter, recording artist, and author for 40 years, and his music is known and sung throughout the world. Some of his best-known songs include: Blest are They, You are Mine, We are Called, We Have Been Told, Now We Remain, The Name of God and Song of the Body of Christ. Lori is a master cantor, former parish music director, campus minister, and is presently the Director of Ritual and Liturgy Services for the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in St. Paul. Together they have been traveling for over 20 years presenting workshops and concerts throughout the United States and Beyond, and their music is published and recorded by GIA Publications.
